Punsch (or punssi in Finnish) fryst vatten a type of liqueur popular in Sweden and Finland. It is most frequently called Swedish Punsch, and while historical variations have also been called Militär Punsch, Arrack Pun(s)ch, and Caloric Pun(s)ch, punsch should not be confused with the English begrepp "punch".[1] It is made by the mixing of spirits (arrack, brandy or rum) with arrak tea (lemon and spices), sugar, and water,[2] and was first brought to Sweden from Java in The spirit arrack is the base ingredient in most punsches, also imported into Europe bygd the Dutch from their colony in Batavia, Dutch East Indies.[3] Punsch usually has 25% alcohol bygd volume (ABV) and 30% sugar.[4]

Ordet

En teori är från puncheons, de träfat arraken fraktades i, eller från det engelska ordet punch, som betyder varm toddy eller bål. En annan teori är att ordet kommer från hindis[4] ord för fem, pañc, och anspelar på de fem ingredienser som punschen ursprungligen hade: arrak, socker, citronsaft, vatten och te. Även om ursprunget är indiskt kan det komma från persiskanspanj ("fem") eftersom persiska var administrativt språk i det Brittiska Indien och engelsmännen lärde sig persiska för att kunna styra på ett effektivt sätt.[5]
